Vincent D'Onofrio lies on the floor of his Manhattan hotel room, playing with his 7-month-old son, then gets up to do an interview (which also takes him into another room where he can smoke a cigarette near an open window).

He's in New York to talk about two movies: The Cell, a film in which he plays a serial killer whose brain is invaded by psychologist Jennifer Lopez, and Steal This Movie, a film biography of late political activist Abbie Hoffman. He plays Hoffman and also helped produce the film.

Since his blazing burst into the public consciousness in the 1987-88 season--with Mystic Pizza, Adventures in Babysittin and Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket--D'Onofrio has built a solid reputation as an actor willing to challenge himself in edgy material. With his sleepy eyes and bear-like build, he's as at home playing a tragic romantic lead (as in The Whole Wide World) as he is playing an alien bug inhabiting a human body (Men in Black) or even Orson Welles "Ed Wood).

While in New York to discuss his newest films, he took Five Minutes to talk with drDrew.com.

Vincent D'Onofrio: The first thing that comes to mind is reading and smoking.
