What was Goren Singing?

What was Goren singing in "Prisoner"?

:: From Judy Pilgrim....

You wouldn't expect Bobby to be singing something from the Billboard Top 20, would you? It seems he chose to serenade us with one of Stephen Foster's more obscure songs from 1861 - "Don't Bet Your Money on De Shanghai". That's so Bobby!

Here's a link to the song.

Thanks Judy!!

You have got to be kidding me! What a strange choice indeed! How do you know that is what he was singing??? curious minds need feeding.
I could not make out a syllable. I thought he was have a psychotic moment, mumbling and spazing like a resident of Bourbon Street at 3 a.m. It was sooooooooo funny, but somewhat choppy, like it was added in as an after thought. He looked like Poobear looking for his needle of meth - e

I was just going to say some of the same things, and you beat me to it..I never heard of that song....and, what a strange choice.
I wonder who came up with the idea to pick this particular ditty...Loved his little dance, but really didn't know what he was singing either......His clothes were a hoot......

Yet another chapter in the life of "Bobby." You gotta give him his due, he keeps us guessing... Bravo, Vincent!!!

since Stephen Foster is not PC
and VDO claims he will never play a racist, this makes no sense....there maybe a clue that I am not getting.....or possibly this is not the song....we need Goren to solve this one.:))

I put my TV on mute and could read the words as Goren sang them. I also followed the link for the whole song. I know much of Stephen Foster's musice, but I'm not familiar with this one.

The "Bye-Bye Blackbird that I know is not this song.

"Pack up all my cares and woes
Here I go, singin' low
Bye Bye Blackbird.

Where somebody waits for me
Sugar's sweet, so is he
Bye Bye Blacbird."

No one hear can love and understand me
Oh the hard luck stores they all hand me.

Make my bed and light the light
I'll be home late to night
Blackbird, bye bye.

I'll have to find the sheet music for "chicken" so I can relate to the tune.

An additional thougtht: Bye Bye Blackbird may have been in the script, but then someone changed to song to use in the episode. I will look back at the script if possible to see if that is the case.

Still a strange scene but one I enjoyed.
