Shorts Competition Program 5: Cineverses
This inspiring collection of shorts pays homage to the actor’s craft and the storyteller’s gift for imagination. Up on the Rope presents a boy with an unusual perspective on life. In this case, it’s quite literal. Veteran British actor Alan Corduner (The White Countess, Vera Drake) plays an obsessive dandy in Against Nature, an upper crust scribe whose universe couldn’t be more ordered. That’s unfortunate for the homeless wreck outside his window. Bay Area filmmaker Jay Rosenblatt brings us his latest offering: an elegy for his deceased brother and a meditation on coping with loss. Uso Justo is a community just east of the border that comes to life when a film crew rolls into a town. The enthusiastic residents quickly realize, however, that they are obliged to obey some very basic rules of storytelling. Lastly, we’re in an apartment in post-war Vienna, and it’s the final rehearsal. The scene? A battered ferris wheel car high above the banks of the Danube. Orson Welles has only minutes to give birth to one of cinemas more memorable speeches. Vincent D’Onofrio (Law and Order, Ed Wood) directs and stars.

I for one cannot wait for the video clip of the Welles film with VDO...I hope it is a winner in the film festival...I know Vincent put his all into it...like he does with everything else he does...I have been waiting to see something on this short film....and hope one day to be able to buy it.....
Hurrah for Vincent - and can we have it on video/DVD/TV anything, something so we can all watch it!

Let me be the first fan of Vincent D'Onofrio's to request that if at all possible, Cinequest's DVD label release his short film 'Five Minutes Mister Welles' to DVD. As one of his many fans, we are all dying to see D'Onofrio's directorial debut and his second shot at playing Orson Welles (you might recall, his first was in Tim Burton's 'Ed Wood'). We would be more than happy to help finance the intriguing and worthy venture that is Cinequest and to support D'Onofrio's filmmaking ventures through the purchase of DVDs containing 'Five Minutes Mister Welles' directly from Cinequest.
Also if possible, please make some or all of 'Five Minutes Mister Welles' available for viewing at Cinequest Online during or after Cinequest 2006. I guarantee that as a fan I will get out the word :)
