Death watch: What shows won't return

List lengthens as networks pitch next season

By Kevin Downey
Mar 9, 2006

Next week, at pre-upfront meetings with media buyers, the networks will preview series in development for the fall. Executives will also talk up the shows being renewed for next season.

Less talked about will be the shows that aren't coming back, but there will be a hefty number for sure. Shows that might have survived in prior seasons are at risk, as ratings improve for ABC in particular.

Many network shows have already been written off, and others will be getting the axe soon if their ratings don’t begin trending up, and fast.

Among these roughly two dozen on-the-bubble shows are the expected --NBC’s “Joey,” for example--but also a few surprises, most notably ABC’s “Commander in Chief” and NBC’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” Full article.

Makes me sad when I read this, but it's not like we haven't been preparing ourselves for this. V has told us right from the start that he would only do so many seasons, and we have already had to get used to only 1/2 the eps with him. I'd rather see the series end with good shows than have it drag out and have reduced quality. More time for new movie ventures for The Man :)

I can't believe they would do this to LOCI...They were getting decent numbers....when the episodes are shown....Of course they are not shown Regularly...Repeats for weeks, then None at all...No one knows when they are on or off...then they are thinking of canceling them....Give me a break NBC...We never know what or when you are going to show what episode most of the time......

The head honchos at NBC have their heads in the sand most of the time and know not what they do....

I find it funny that it's faltered in "recent weeks" when it's been on once in the past four weeks because of the Olympics..and that once was a repeat because of the Oscars. I'm pretty sure that market research is based on the neilson ratings for February..usually a sweeps month..but the Olympics put a wrinkle in that.

The article doesn't say the show is cancelled or even near being cancelled.

But the time to let NBC know what you think is NOW!. E-mail NBC and tell them to renew LOCI for next season, let them know how much you like the show. AND send them a card, addressed to Jeff Zucker, CEO of NBC. If they get enough cards and e-mails, believe they'll pay attention to them. I'm sure someone on here can get Jeff Zucker's address. Just keep the message short and sweet.

This is right around the time they're making these kinds of decisions, and now's the time when your opinion can have the most impact.

mandib is right, its been evident for quite some time. Through all Vincent`s interviews he has said he wants his life back, when he gets bored, ect ect. You only have to pay attention to what he say`s in interviews and you will know what, when and why he is doing things. Like the big pr with noth, of course Vince wants him there, because he wants freedom.I will miss Goren, but have missed his films, and the great characters he play`s. NBC got petitoned before, but you never get as much as a wink! They decide what they want us to watch regardless!!

Ashley, you said exactly what I was thinking....how can they talk about LOCI's performance in recent weeks when it hasn't even been on in recent weeks!

Personally, I don't think the quality of the show has been reduced at all. I think it's as good now as ever, and I don't see it getting cancelled (fingers crossed).

Thanks Nick for your comment. You're right. Now's the time to rally around our show. Wasn't there talk of moving LOCI to another day next year anyway in order to make room for the new football season? SVU seemed to flourish once it settled on Tuesday night. I just hope they won't give up on our show. There were a few others on that list that I was sorry to see were in trouble too. Why are they picking on "Conviction" already? It's only been on 1 week! Don't worry LOCI, I will follow you wherever you go!
