Perez stars in Gallic 'Law'
Gallic thesp Vincent Perez will reprise Vincent d'Onofrio's Det. Robert Goren role in the Gallic language version of "Law and Order: Criminal Intent."
"I'm sure Vincent Perez will make the part his own," said "L&O" producer Dick Wolf, comparing the two thesps at the Monte Carlo TV festival on Thursday. "Both of them are intense."
"L&O" stars Richard Belzer and Diane Neal, "Grey's Anatomy's" Ellen Pompeo, "Commander in Chief's" Geena Davis, "The Unit's" Dennis Haysbert and "Lost's" Jorge Garcia and Daniel Dae Kim were among a bevvy of talent tubthumping an array of U.S. shows in Monte Carlo, attended by some 1,200 participants this year.
With Gaul's "L&O," the long hunt for the right actor is only one of the hurdles that Gallic commercial web TF1's production unit Alma has had to overcome in its efforts to reproduce the hit series to the web's -- and Wolf and NBC Universal's -- liking.
Under the terms of an unusual deal, the U.S. partners have approval rights over artistic elements such as cast and scripts, while NBC Universal will handle international sales of the Gallic show.
"We're pretty involved," said Wolf, predicting, "I think it is going to be very good."
The French show will be an attractive proposition for European TV buyers because it falls within quotas that require webs to air at least 50% European programming.
Wolf and NBC are involved in a similar local language adaptation of "L&O" for Russian TV, which concerns both "Criminal Intent" and "Special Victim Unit" spinoffs.
After selling "L&O" around the world, the local adaptations are the next step in exploiting the property internationally.

Okay, there's no way they can cancel the mothership, CI, or SVU now. Not only are the ratings for new episodes pretty damn good, but the money and ratings from syndication is phenominal!
And now they're selling the format to different countries -- just perfect!
Heh, all three L&Os are gonna be here for a LOOOONG time!
Commiserations to France - that's the 'wrong' Vincent!
I don't think it's the "wrong" Vincent, just a different one. And he is a very good actor, I like him a lot.
I am not sure how I feel about this-I thought English language shows were dubbed for non-English speaking countries but to sell out your whole plot and cast of characters to another country seems a bit greedy on the part of Dick Wolf. We have had TV series based on foreign shows, like "All In The Family", but they are just based on the shows. I think Mr. Wolf is going a bit too far in milking his shows concepts.
Madi, I like the'other' Vincent too, but no way I can imagine him as Robert Goren (sorry).
wow, you mean the French are going to go for the bad guy always getting nailed?
The next thing you know European films will all have happy endings.
