Rita Moreno has signed on for a recurring role on NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
Moreno will portray the mother of Vincent D'Onofrio's character, Detective Robert Goren, in at least three episodes of the series, from Dick Wolf's Wolf Films and NBC Universal Television Studio.

wow she will be on three episoeds. vincent will bring his A game when he confronts his ill mom not only mentaly ill but cancer ill,Kathyrn will support her partner goren with compassion and respect. I cant wait.

I would have been much happier seeing an unknown -or at LEAST- professionally unrelated actress in the role. Too "sister-show" obvious and non-imposing a choice as far as I'm concerned. Just so disappointing...

it has been years since i always waited for the mother of robert goren to show up on the series.
I am floored-I never would have guessed that Rita Moreno would get the role-extremely interesting choice-I know her well-she is a very respected actress, but much more known for her work on Broadway as a singer and dancer-she and Gwen Verdon were the original players in "Chicago" on Broadway-and three episodes-I thought it would be a one episode event-WOW.
I also have to add that I never thought of Frances Goren as hot-Rita Moreno has always been beautiful and obviously still is-they are really going to have to do a job to make her look elderly, which is how Goren described his Mom and mentally and physically ill.

VDO and Rita Morena are perfect as Mama and Son... or Son and Mama... either way! This is cool! When are we gonna see them together??? Next month? Two months?? Three???
Ya know, if I saw my mother in this outfit I would either cry or turn 3 shades of red. I don't really know this actress so my feelings are indifferent about this. Sooo...if he going to get emotional and Eames all protective? I have to wonder this (like I think someone else did). Is this the part where that article stated that the 2 of them were going to get closer? I guess I am a closet Shipper, but totally understand the reason why they should just be partners. There is only one Mulder and Scully! (That was a great show)-(Partners, love, and a child)-(Big dreams!)

I made an error-it was Chita Rivera and not Rita Moreno who starred in the original "Chicago"-also checked and Rita Moreno is 75 years old-WOW-she looks great.

The makeup department will erase all traces of her still current beauty leaving her alone with her acting skills to give another outstanding performance.
She still turns heads when spotted

The other night I saw her in a episode of L&O SVU. Maybe they thought to give her a bigger part?
I don't know this actress at all - but wouldn't any woman be proud to play Robert Goren's mother? Good luck to her.
She's a great actress, but she's just way too tiny to have given birth to a child Bobby's size!! I really pictured someone at least taller! I'm sure Rita will do a great job and all, but the selection left me scratching my head and going, "huh?"
I can see Rita as Goren's mom.I think they made a great choice and kudos to Rita for accepting the role..I'm familiar with some of Miss Moreno's work over the years.Most recent was Oz and this was many moons ago but she won an emmy for her recurring role on the show Rockford Files (as a hooker Rita Capkovic).I can't wait to see her episodes.
She is really beautiful for 75, I think even an elderly woman or as Goren put it when enraged by the judge in Wee Small Hrs "old woman" can still be attractive like that so it would be interesting to see what the makeup department do.
She looks like a top wealthy heiress the way she dresses!

Did you know Rita was the first person (9 have now done it) to wine al 4 of the Entertainment industry's top honors. She won an Oscar for WEst Side Story, a Topny for the Ritz, an Emy for Sesame Street (and then another for Rockford Files) and then a Grammy for The Electric Company and no one has done it faster 16 years from her Oscar to her Grammy.

Anyway; "Acts of Contrition" was worth watching last night on NBC. It was the last one on my list, too! I finished the whole Seasons 1-5, yipeee! I'd have never completed it if it wasn't for my dear Yusuke, NBC & USA channels and this site!

She's so very slim, I imagine she could easily be made up to look as if she's wasting away. I still can't quite see it though.

But it's exciting that it's somewhat of a recurring role! Yay! These should be some VERY interesting shows! Not that they aren't already...man, I don't know if I can survive watching them at this rate. Ha ha ha.
Sorry, I just don't see it. Rita Moreno has always played spunky, fiery, very animated roles. Can't see her as the long-suffering, now dying, Francis Goren.
