"Criminal Intent" compelling, but inconsistent

Reuters, Sept 24
By Randee Dawn

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - A time-slot jump and the loss of three cast members as well as two original executive producers would gut most shows. Yet "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," now in its sixth season, has ably dusted itself off and gotten back to business. Full article.

TV Guide Returning Favorites issue

"Law & Order: Criminal Intent"
Starts 9/19, 9/8c, NBC

WHERE WE LEFT OFF: Captain James Deakins (Jamey Sheridan) stepped down under mounting allegations of corruption.

WHO'S IN, WHO'S OUT: With Courtney B Vance's ADA Ron Carver gone, Theresa Randle ("Bad Boys") steps up as new ADA Patricia Kent, at least for a few episodes. Also, Chris Noth is back as Det. Mike Logan. And it's goodbye Annabella Sciorra, hello Julianne Nicholson (Conviction), who joins the cast as Det. Megan Wheeler. But the most intriguing newcomer might be Eric Bogosian ("Talk Radio"), who'll play Capt. Danny Ross.

WASSUP, GOREN AND EAMES? Season 6 finds Vincent D'Onofrio's quirky Detective Robert Goren going from eccentric to existential. He's thinking, "How did I end up like this?" says exec producer Warren Leight. Helping him will be a long-lost mentor, played by John Glover. While D'Onofrio promises a "personalizing" of his alter ego this season, he says the approach will go only so far. "You're never going to see Goren with a girlfriend". As for his partner, Detective Alexandra Eames, D'Onofrio says, "Kathryn (Erbe) will be showing colors in the character we've never seen. "

"This is a different CI this season,"

.... says new show runner and Executive Producer Warren Leight

NBC Universal --
NEW YORK, NY – September 12, 2006 – A member of the Major Case Squad is kidnapped as "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" kicks off its sixth season in its new time period (Tuesday, Sept. 19, 9-10 p.m. ET/PT). "Blind Spot" introduces Eric Bogosian as Captain Danny Ross – who recently headed a successful three-year Joint Task Force on International Money Laundering and was subsequently promoted to the Major Case Squad.

"This is a different CI this season -- there will be politics and more at stake emotionally and personally for our detectives," says Warren Leight, Executive Producer and new show runner, "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." "We'll see more character-oriented stories, we want to give characters a larger role going forward and see the affect and sense the toll this job takes on the officers. Detective Goren isn't always going to be the smartest guy in the room anymore."

In this Tuesday's episode, when the body of a former Ambassador's daughter is found brutally murdered in her uptown home, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) question a jealous ex-boyfriend. But when another body shows up with a similar crime scene, Detective Goren's old mentor (guest star John Glover) and his
daughter (guest star Martha Plimpton) suddenly return to warn of a past serial killer back on the loose. The search gets personal as a member of the Major Case Squad is kidnapped.

Along with Captain Ross (Bogosian) "Law & Order: Criminal Intent's" sixth season features the addition of Detective Megan Wheeler (Julianne Nicholson) as Detective Mike Logan's (Chris Noth) new partner. Partners Logan and Wheeler form the Major Case Squad alongside long-time partners Detectives Goren and Eames, who will split the caseloads week to week.

"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" is a Wolf Films production in association with NBC Universal Television Studio and is Dick Wolf's third installment of the "Law and Order" brand, the second-longest running drama series in the history of television. Wolf, Leight and Peter Jankowski are executive producers.

NYC comedian Baron Vaughn

...filmed a part in Law and Order: Criminal Intent episode titled
"Siren Call" last Friday, Sept 1st......

Baron Vaughn
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yeah yeah yeah, mofo!
So today marked a historical event for me. And by "me" I mean "my mom." I filmed Law and Order: Criminal Intent today. This fulfills one of my mothers greatest dreams for me which was to be on her favortie show on TV. And by "favorite" I mean "we watched a Law and Order: Criminal Intent marathon on New Years Eve as a means of counting down." When I told that to Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe, they looked at me much like the photo to the left. They were confused and maybe a little afraid. I guess its the equivalent of someone saying to me "Hey I watched a video or your stand up and stared at a picture of you for 4 hours until it was midnight and then I celebarted by making noise and setting off miniature explosives! YAY!"
I kept thinking to myself the whole time I was was there that it would be HILARIOUS if there was a real murder on the set of Law and Order. Why would that be funny you ask? I'm tell you. Cuz no one would be able to tell who the real cops are and aren't. The costumes are very authentic. Its disorienting. It'd be a jumble of actors and real cops and what a Mad Cap Romp 'twould be! I don't want anyone to die, but if it resulted in tale of mistaken identity to rvial that of the Bard's Twelfth Night, PLAY ON!
The highlight of the night though was standing on a pier of Long Island City made to look like an outdoor bar/party in the rain. Outdoors. In the drizzle and wind that got worse as the night went on. And we had to look like we were having fun and not wet and cold. Very nice indeed.
BUT EVEN TO OUTDO THAT, was the wonderful experience of waiting in the rain after I'd been wrapped. I stood with a broken umbrella while 3 cabs looked right at me and passed me by refusing to take me somewhere that is only 10 minute drive away (i had no clue how to get back). I stood and walked around for 45 minutes until a clueless driver picked me up. I mean was what I thinking? Why would I expect them to pick me up? Its not February!
All in all it was a fun experience and I met some good people. I was angry I had to cancel 3 spots tonight including the premiere of my own show, but Law and Order happens. I'm wet. I'm cold. I'm tired. I just spilled water in my own bed. Great.
