Law and Order: Criminal Intent

- Vincent Donofrio Carries This Compelling Television Show
"Character Robert Goren is the lynchpin to this gripping detective drama"
by Craig Kohler, Associated Content, 5.21.07

Recently rumored to be leaving the show, Vincent Donofrio is (fortunately) now slated to stay on for future seasons of Law and Order: Criminal Intent. Why is this so significant? Simply put: the show revolves around his brilliantly developed character: Robert Goren. Donofrio brings his big-screen movie experience to this television show, elevating it well above the average American cop or detective drama. Even people who are not fans of the genre should give the series a try, solely based on the strength of Donofrio's main character.

Donofrio's character on Law and Order: Criminal Intent represents a complex mixture of tortured genius and brilliant sleuth. He is at once able to slip inside the minds of criminals and profile them to the point where he can break them psychologically and, often, cause them to confess. The most gripping moments of Law and Order: CI inevitably involve Donofrio. These frequently feature the Goren character's realizations or edge-of-your-seat interviews with suspects. However, equally often, such intense scenes reflect his failures or self-doubt. The show's other characters are at their best when they play off of Donofrio, supporting, questioning or even undermining the character of Robert Goren.

Oh my goodness, I think a tear was shed. Finally, a real article about our favorite man! I love it and hope that he (and Kathryn) get an Emmy! Endgame was an incredible episode and deserves recognition. (Unlike last night in which I was sick to my stomach!)
I love how VDO is on for future seasons. Next season with USA, is going to rock!

I really hope someone who knows VDO tells him about this article. We all need positive reinforcement. He needs to see that serious critics as well as googly eyed fans admire what he has done with his Goren character.

Here, here! It's great when he actually gets recognition. I'd like to see more about the partnership. Eames and Goren play off of each other so well.

this is an outstanding article about vdo. CI wouldn't be the same without him and I'm very glad he'll be coming back for years to come. I only watch the show b/c of his great portrayal of Robert Goren.

Isn't it great to read something positive at last? I just don't understand how others fail to see his genius (as well as his hunkiness) and I guess it must be that we are all exceptionally bright to appreciate it and him.

Trcyk63 said, I'm so glad that Vincent has agreed to stay on Law and Order Ci he made the right decision i could have told everybody that he wasn't planning to leave to begin with i knew that ever since march 3rd of 2007, he told me not to believe everything that is said on the comp about him because most of the time all it is, is rumors unless its coming straight from his mouth its usually not true. But i'm not sure about kathryn Erbe i hope she is still coming back nobody has heard about whether she is coming back or not, i hope that she still is i would like to know something on that, then i will really be satisfied.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm delighted to see that VDO will be returning. This is the only L&O program I watch, and it's all about him. C. Nort does not do it for me. I wish season 4 would hurry and be available on DVD.

I heard Vince say once that the program was written sometime to play out for the viewer to know what's going to happen before they (the cast) figure it out.

I'm a happy camper tonight.

Thanks, thereel, for posting this incredibly, wonderful article!!! After last night's season finale, it is great to see something positive about CI--especially when it is such glowing reviews of Vincent! Last night's show was such a HUGE disappointment!! But I guess anything following Vincent's stellar performance the week before will always pale in comparison and be a major let down. But, even without Vincent's performance, last night's show was a joke, I'm very sorry to say. I always want the best for CI, no matter who is being highlighted that week, but as the article says, Vincent elevates the show to well above the average American cop or detective drama. I wish Vincent would clue in the other half to how it is done. :o)
