Talk of the Nation, October 24, 2007 ยท Next week, the contract for members of the Writers Guild of America will expire. Hollywood producers and writers must negotiate a new contract, or face the possibility of a strike.

Rene Balcer, Emmy-award winning writer and the executive producer of NBC's Law & Order, explains the situation.

Well I hustled to get home from the Washington DC Room To Read event at the South African embassy and leapt out of my car, headed straight for the phone, got through to the producers of the radio show who put me in the queue to talk on the air...but they ran out of time. Darn! So close! LOL!

Anyway it's a good listen :)

Oh and the South African Embassy thing was a blast...I met the ambassador himself and the Chief Operating Officer of Room To Read. So I am now working my network of people to help them out and we are planning to do a very memorable fundraising event which I hope will make some VDO fans very happy and raise a lot of money for at least one library (the Frances Goren Library). I will of course get the details to the admins of The Reel as soon as they are finalized.

Thank you vdovault for your involvement-I just listened to the audio of Rene's interview-it was very interesting to hear his take and of course, I think his idea for the Frances Goren library is great-it is important but also fun at the same time-

This was fun and enlightening, although I would've preferred more minutiae regarding the strike. I realize Balcer only had so many minutes to speak and not an hour. Hey--I hadn't known the primary reason why he forfeited his role on CI. The mothership asked him to come back, did they? After hearing him talk about the new plans for the show I'm actually looking forward to tuning into it this January even though I thought last season was kinda crappy.
