Writers strike would hit TV hardest
~excerpted~
Forget Halloween. The real scare for TV viewers and film fans could start this week. Hollywood writers, whose contract with producers expires tonight, could vote to strike as early as Thursday, though it's far from certain. The writers, in tough negotiations for new-media rights, also could wait as late as June, when actor/director contracts end.
If a strike takes place, late-night talk shows would be the first to feel the effects, with hosts suddenly without monologue and sketches. Scripted prime-time shows probably wouldn't run out of new episodes until January. Reruns, newsmagazines, reality and comedies and dramas set for midseason would fill holes.
NBC - New episodes of its Law & Order franchise could be joined by repeats of Criminal Intent, now on USA. Celebrity Apprentice would be ready, and Biggest Loser probably would be back. Repeasts of NBC-Universal cable series such as Monk and Psych also could air. More.

Teamsters Will Honor Writer's Strike
Writer's Guild contract renegotiations are so exciting. Something about the possibility of losing another season of A Shot of Love with Tila Tequila just sets my pulse aflutter. Latest development, as reported by the AP: Late last night, Teamsters Local 399 advised its members to honor the writer's strike, should it occur. More.

As soon as Rene Balcer said 'It's about money and ego' I thought 'oh dear, that's it then...'
Doesn't sound hopeful at all, but I'll be happy if they prove me wrong!
I hope they don't strike only because that means everyone on the crew is out of work-and then even restaurants, etc., also suffer-but I don't really understand the writers' reasons, so just have to trust them and hope for the best-nice to know that NBC will now have time for CI if there is a strike-Thank you so much for your loyalty NBC.
