Having watched the eppy twice within a 3-hr. period, here's my two-bit review:
Vincent's performance was riveting; breathtakingly, heartbreakingly real. Even strapped down to the slab (without the use of his lovely, expressive hands), his performance was deep and moving. Speaking of his hands: before they were "tethered" the second time, that little gun improvisation was awesome. I also loved how he incorporated the psychotic behavior of a previous case— the lining up of peas— to build his cover.
Tony's and Katie's performances were also stunning. There was one close-up of Eames, where she struggled between panic and the dread of letting the Capt. know what her partner had gotten himself into that was priceless. I was grateful that they had cast such a talented young actor for the part of Donny. He was able to hold his own in this.
Did anyone notice how the warden resembled Nurse Ratchet?
The episode didn't seem any longer, and the commercial interruption was killer, but LOCI really delivered last night.
I thought that I would not be able to watch the episode because of the emotional scenes, but I did and found it to be another great job done by Vincent D'Onofrio. Thank you Vincent for the performance, you certainly went deep.
AMAZING episode! I found myself at the most intense scenes trying to look away, but being unable to. Vincent really deserves an Emmy already!! Played incredibly well (though we'd expect nothing less from the great VDO), you really started to wonder if Bobby was losing it, or simply relying on all he'd seen from his mother to give the schizophrenic performance.
Also, even though sad, it was good to see Frank post-Frances, to see what he was really made of once Mom was out of the picture. And now that Bobby has officially (and justifiably) cut Frank out of his life, it's nice to think that he could have one shred of family left in Donny. Hopefully this storyline is continued in the new year.
And Eames was wonderful. Anytime you get to see the friendship inside their partnership is beautiful. Frank's crack about going to a motel, though crude, was priceless to see Bobby's reaction. They truly have a unique relationship, and he won't stand for anyone disrespecting what they have or Eames herself. Bravo to everyone for an incredible epsisode!
Thank you for the caps and the clips- Vincent was brilliant-excellent job by Tony Goldwyn as well and the young actor that played Donny- Riveting storyline and acting- A big Congratulations and Thank You to the whole CI staff- Regi.
I was up most of the night remembering those heartbreaking slab scenes. Emmy worthy acting from Vincent. I loved Ross & his reluctant loyalty & devotion to his Detective. The Chief is still an idiot who doesn't appreciate the brilliant & brave Detective Goren. How did such a lame brain get promoted?
No doubt, a great performance by all involved. Vincent was great; however there were a few scenes where I could hardly watch. Several things I noticed. When Bobby went down to talk to Frank, his lips were moving, as though he was talking, just before he said, “Don’t you know what it would have meant to her to know she had a grandchild?’
Also I had noticed that in Depths, there seem to be something between M.E. Rodgers and Captain Ross. Then last night she was in the elevator when he was telling Alex that he had 30 minutes to get to Lincoln Center. She had on a most stunning black dress and it seemed apparent they were going together.
It seems like the writers still have loads of topics to continue with in coming attractions. Can’t wait to see what happens. Hopefully the strike will be settled soon with everyone being happy.
What a stunning episode - thank you for doing the caps, by the way. This was really seminal stuff. I know some people are taking great delight in picking apart the storyline but really the night belonged to Goren, Eames and Frank ... with Donny a very close runner up.
I simply cannot imagine what will happen next. It's terrible, waiting to find out!
Finally watched the ep last night (yay for sat night reruns!), and I thought I was going to cry whenever he was screaming for more water while on the metal slab.
Hats off to the director for putting combining very well both the amount of time he was in there with the terrible, torturous things they were doing--it just made it seem that much more painful for Bobby and emotionally jarring for the viewer!
I really think the writers get a kick playing with all the BA shippers outs there...anytime Frank is involved, there's gotta be SOME sort of reference to Goren and Eames being together (Brother's Keeper, Endgame, Untethered). Perhaps a hidden slight (the crazy druggie bro being the only one to point it out?)--jk of course ;-)

Thanks to thereel for the caps and USA for the clip! I can see I will indeed swallow my 'hugging cushion' when I get to see this...
Thanks, Reel, for getting the caps up so quickly!
