"Welles", "Mac Dog" scribe has new film

Will Conroy, who runs the Arizona Inn, has penned a film due next year starring Ben Kingsley and Woody Harrelson

By Phil Villarreal, 7.26.07

Screenwriter Will Conroy races through a lunch interview at the Arizona Inn, hardly touching his hamburger. He's talking about his exploding writing career, his history-making family and the honor of running the storied hotel his great-grandmother started 76 years ago.

Conroy always seems to be writing, even when he's talking — reaching into thin air for inspiration and filtering it into words. He's a human series of hyperlinks, jumping from one tangent to the next with renewed enthusiasm before doubling back to apologize for talking too much.

He speaks with the exuberance you might expect from someone who co-wrote a screenplay that's now a big-screen reality with Ben Kingsley and Woody Harrelson in the cast. Full article.

Kate Erbe at "Hairspray"

from FashionWire, 7.18.07
by Jenny Peters

The cast and crew of the new musical comedy film "Hairspray" danced their way across the U. S., continuing the party that started last week in Los Angeles with an even-more glittery premiere held at New York's legendary Ziegfeld Theatre, and a huge after party at Roseland. Not only was the whole cast back out in force, from Michelle Pfeiffer, Queen Latifah, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, Zac Efron, James Marsden, Brittany Snow, and newcomer Nikki Blonsky to cross-dressing star John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston, who stole the red-carpet show in a teal blue David Meister cocktail dress that wowed the assembled crowd.

Fans of the John Waters' movie-turned-Broadway-show-turned-movie-yet-again included Katie Holmes, Paula Abdul, Bernadette Peters, Liza Minnelli, Nathan Lane, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara – pretty much anyone who is anyone and in New York at the moment turned up. Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna were on hand, too, along with Ralph Macchio, Alexa Vega, Edie Falco, Kathryn Erbe, Lance Bass, and Clive Davis.

FMJ - Top 10 Military Movie

From Marine Corp Times
By C. Mark Brinkley

1. Full Metal Jacket (1987)
Private Joker, are you trying to offend me?

Our pick for the best war movie of the past 20 years, if not all time, and it didn’t even crack the Top 400 ballot. Words fail to express how wrong that is.

“Full Metal Jacket,” directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Matthew Modine, Vincent D’Onofrio and R. Lee Ermey (in the role that made him a star), could be considered two great war movies for the price of one. The first half of the film shows Marine recruits at boot camp, preparing for Vietnam, while the second half deals with the violence and uncertainty of that war.

LO:CI to air Thursday at 10pm on USA

excerpted -

USA has slotted "Law & Order: CI" in the 10 p.m. Thursday timeslot, pitting it against NBC's "ER" and CBS' "Without a Trace." Skein, which is moving from NBC to cable this fall, will start its seventh season on Oct. 4.

Decision to sked "CI" on Thursdays comes in the wake of USA's summer success airing original skeins "Starter Wife" and "Burn Notice" on Thursdays. It's the first time USA has attempted original programming on the all-important night, and Gaspin thinks it could be a major boon to the cabler's bottom line thanks to the glut of movie advertising money on the night.
