Article & Video Interview at Nashville FF

Nashville Edge, 4.24.08
by Kendall Mitchell

Actor Turned Filmmaker Panel

Four notable actors turned filmmakers gathered at the Nashville Film Festival to share their experiences and offer their best advice on working in the film industry in front of the camera and behind it.

-excerpted-
Vincent D’Onofrio started the conversation that many directors don’t know how to relate or deal with actors and that actors turned directors can be the most ideal. They can see things from an actors perspective, nurture their cast, and read each individual actor and how they prefer to work. D’Onofrio added that actors should be treated delicately while on set, like glass, because if you break an actor before or during their performance, that performance is dead.

Nashville Film Festival Round-Up, 4.30.08

The Actors Turned Filmmaker Panel was quite entertaining with Michelle Paradise, Joey Lauren Adams, Robby Benson and Vincent D’Onofrio each discussing there various adventures behind the camera. It was moderated by big time casting director Laray Mayfield. I went to the panel with Lee as she and Michelle Paradise worked on the short film The Ten Rules: A Lesbian Survival Guide which actually became the basis for the cable show Exes & Ohs. Pretty cool stuff! So, a great panel overall, some fun topics and pitfalls about jumping behind the camera. Afterward I was able to do a little celeb stalking.

OMG! I am a Southerner and that accent slays me! So... d'onofrio. That is my new word for anything that is crazysexycool.

As in, "Man I love your new Lamborghini. Very d'onofrio."

Or "Your party last night was so d'onofrio that I can't remember much of what happened, but I know I had fun! If you find my shoe will you call me?"

or "How was your blind date?"
"He was d'onofrio. I want to run away to Mexico, marry him, and have mad cool babies."

I didn't know who Tony Joe White was that Vincent mentioned, but looked him up. Anyone who wrote "Rainy Night in Georgia" and hosted Vincent at a dinner in Nashville must be a good guy.

He's very photogenic.

(Gosh, isn't that a daft thing to say about a screen actor with 30 years experience?)

Tami - I think your definition of the word 'donofrio' should be added to the new Vincent Dictionary we seem to be compiling - it already includes such gems as ' groinal' and 'thudalicious'.
