Jeff Goldblum is joining the USA Network series as the new co-lead alongside Vincent D'Onofrio. The two will be spitting starring duties throughout the season the way D'Onofrio did with Noth in the past three years.
"Jeff's presence will add a new dimension to an already successful show," "Law & Order" chief Dick Wolf said. full article

Goldblum joins 'Criminal Intent'
Actor to replace Chris Noth on NBC 'Law' drama
By MICHAEL SCHNEIDER
Jeff Goldblum is set to replace Chris Noth next season on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
Like Noth, Goldblum will be seen in half of the series' episodes; discussions are ongoing with Vincent D'Onofrio to continue headlining the other half.
Noth, who joined the show in 2005 when D'Onofrio opted to reduce his workload, reps the show's latest departure. Exec producer Warren Leight recently left and signed a deal with HBO, where he'll oversee a new season of "In Treatment." A replacement for Leight has not yet been named. Full article

Noth Out, Goldblum in at ‘L&O: CI’
By Josef Adalian and Jon Lafayette
Chris Noth is giving up his “Law & Order” gun and badge for a second time, leaving the cast of USA Network’s “L&O: Criminal Intent” at the end of the series’ seventh season.
Mr. Noth will be replaced on the show next season by Jeff Goldblum, a network spokesman confirmed.“Jeff’s presence will add a new dimension to an already successful show,” said Dick Wolf, creator of the “L&O” franchise.
An insider said negotiations for another season between USA and Mr. Noth, who appeared in the original “L&O” on NBC, simply didn’t work out.
“Chris has been a member of the ‘Law & Order’ family since the beginning, and Mike Logan is one of the most popular detectives in the history of television. We all wish him the best,” said Mr. Wolf.

There is no clear word on why Chris Noth has left the L&O: CI, though there are rumors that he was asked to take a pay freeze for the upcoming season rather than offered a pay increase. With the success of Sex and the City: The Movie and with new movie roles already being filmed, including a romantic comedy called My One and Only that also stars Renée Zellweger, it seems clear why Noth made his decision.
New season 7 episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent are currently airing on Sunday nights on USA Network. Season 8 with Jeff Golblum should begin airing on USA this fall.
Do you think Jeff Goldblum will be a good replacement for Chris Noth?

Well that's ominous.
Very, very sad to see Chris go. But, tis understandable. He has been getting more exposure these days. And with the little one about... Best of luck to him.
I just hope they don't kill him, er, Logan.
That would be more than tragic.
WOW.
I love this turn of events. Chris Noth is a great original L&O guy, but I never really bought him as a Criminal Intent kind of detective. I like his work generally, but he seemed so . . . normal compared to Bobby.
I am one who has NOT liked the last 2 seasons. I know D'Onofrio, Leight, and Noth enjoyed the new direction of the show, but it was completely unlike, and IMO, inferior to the first 4 seasons of L&O:CI. Goldblum is just as WEIRD as "Original Bobby" was, and I think he is a MUCH better fit for the old L&O:CI formula. My hope is that they will re-institute the original L&O:CI formula with Goldblum and OLD Bobby, AND, I FERVENTLY HOPE, a hell of a lot more Rene Balcer in the mix.
I am so sorry to see Chris leave-I always watched both sets of detectives and always liked the Logan character-
I thank Chris for stepping in to CI when the load was too much for Vincent and I hope the best for him-
And what's this about still negotiating with Vincent-
Regi.
Noth was doing really creative work with his character and obviously enjoying the atmosphere on LOCI these past few years. There was a sense of creative unity on the show and that came through in the depth of performances that VDO, Erbe and Noth gave.I thank him for all he did and wish him well.
I think the replacement is too similar in acting style to VDO. A contrast would have been a better artistic choice, unless he is being put in place to succeed VDO.
It's not ominous at all - contracts expire, they have to be renegotiated. I'm sure the same is happening with Kate and everyone else for that matter, since ALL the SAG contracts expire on Vincent's birthday. Simple ;0)
I am enchanted with the news
I do not like Chris Noth and I do not like Logan. The unique reason to see a Logan/ Wheeler episode is Wheeler
Goldblum is a great very versatile actor and it will improve the show.
But, since Basric has said and Lozzie Cap worries me that it he could replace VDO. And without Goren already it would not be the same thing.
(My English is horrible, please corrects what considers necessary. Great blog)
I can't quite fathom out how Noth leaving has been translated as Vincent being replaced either, especially since Vincent keeps on saying he has the best job on TV and he's not going anywhere. When VINCENT says he's done, I'll be sad, but until then, there's season 8 to look forward to!
My impression was that its the work that interests VDO,not the money. He has always followed artistic choices in his life, not fame and fortune. He seemed very happy with the artistic choices of the last two seasons and said so several times.
Why didnt the Raines programme survive then? Was it dependent on Goldblum carrying it as its star?
It should be interesting to see what Goldblum's cop will be like. If, as anyone who has seen him interviewed knows, he is as quirky as Bobby Goren in real life. Love his acting. I think his Raines character was a little too much for most TV viewers although I enjoyed it. Am looking forward to the Fall. And I too, shall feel better when Vincent signs his contract. I guess they're wanting him to continue with another pay freeze. Hope they work it out, they loose Vincent, they loose me Goldblum or not.
OMG... Can't imagine LOCI without Goren....I've always been fascinated by the way Mr. DÓnofrio cares about his work, and the cliches he's willing to boldly break "to go where no one has gone before"...!! It's obvious that money is not his interest, but lets face it, what do we all live on? Cosmic energy...?! Working on pay freez- ultimate sacrific-considering this line of work, which has been compared to working in coal mines! why everything should be so "not about the money" whem it comes to the artists? It's not the idea of VDO negotiating over "fiscal issues" that's hurting my head -and my heart- it's the question of whether the other party is wise enough to realise that it's actually the future of one of the most successfull of the L&O franchise that they're negotiating on?
