Episode Recap "Purgatory"
TVGuide.com, 6.9.08
Law & Order: CI is finally back after the strike, and it seems like we didn’t miss much while the show was away. Detective Goren has been on suspension – aka purgatory- now for 5 months after going “nuts” back in January after his unofficial undercover work in a prison. We find Goren in his neighbor bar when he is approached by Mike Stoat, a former cop who is also on suspension for six months for drug use while undercover. Stoat offers Goren a job for extra money while on suspension, and gives him a gun while he ponders over accepting it. Umm, not the smartest thing ya think to give Goren a gun?!

Great recap and comments from TV Guide-don't you think that in a way Ross loved having this separation between Goren and Eames in not letting her in on his undercover work-she was always standing up for Goren against the Captain and maybe this was a little payback-

Y'know, this 'thing' some of the critics have about Bobby being 'nuts' is really starting to grind on me! He never was 'nuts'. He sailed very close to the wind in 'Untethered', but he was undercover, pretending to be mentally ill. Goren's investigating style has just always been totally 'unique'; like the man himself. Nuts? Never!
This really was an amazing episode, and once again, left us with "unresolved" plot lines! The angst continues!!!
Thank you for the recaps! This episode was everything I was hoping for - intense, dramatic, and incredibly well-acted (as usual). Vincent's choices in portraying the many feelings Robert has - loneliness, emptyness, fear, shame, bravery, concern, and joy among them - is always a pleasure to experience. And Kathryn - wow - so glad she was given more of a role. I hope this trend continues. Kathryn is a wonderful actor and needs a little room to strut her stuff! The writers continue to combine the personal lives of our favorite characters with a well crafted detective story. God I love this show!
Curious...anyone know what diner Bobby was coming out of? Where is his "neighborhood" bar - I've always had the thought that Bobby lived in Brooklyn somewhere. We learned in "Endgame" that he grew up in Carnarsie...any dialogue ties to his home turf that i missed?
