Exec producer close to sealing deal with HBO
"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" exec producer Warren Leight is close to sealing an overall deal with HBO. The pay cabler is seeking to sign Leight to a writing and producing deal with an eye toward his becoming involved in the shrink skein "In Treatment" should it go to a second season.
With Leight's deal for "Criminal Intent" up, NBC Universal and USA had been busy attempting to hammer out a new pact to keep the scribe in place as showrunner for season eight (Daily Variety, May 23).
There was no word Sunday on potential replacements for Leight on "Criminal Intent." But "Law & Order" boss Dick Wolf is no stranger to turnover on his hit franchise's three series and has pointed out in the past that his shows have weathered showrunner changes thanks to his deep bench of producers. Not sure why they couldn't come to a deal especially when Leight doesn't even know if In Treatment will be renewed by HBO-
Hope all goes well with all the actors on CI and their contract renewals-
Regi.
Thank goodness they'd decided to renew BEFORE this came out.
I honestly don't care who the show runner is, as long as it's someone who writes Goren out of his "funk."
I want my hero back. Whoever can do that will receive my undying thanks & support.
BAH WHO CARES IF HE LEAVES, I WANT THE "OLD" BOBBY BACK!!!
I personally feel it was time for a change anyway. I didn't care for Leight's version as much as Balcer's.
And while they're looking for a new showrunner... I'm available ;) haha
I doubt Vincent would have stayed if all he hd to do was go through the motions of 'being Bobby'. Bobby isn't the same character he was in Season 1, he's much more human, much more fragile, and FAR more interesting. Don't forget, it was VINCENT who asked for the changes as well, and as Warren Leight said when they got picked up for a 6th year, it was change or die. They need to keep the show interesting for the actors as well. Loved Bobby then, love him even more now...I just need to give him a hug (or several) ;0)
I agree with you, diane. And I've loved the journey Bobby has been on via Leight and company. And I continue to adore Goren. But after all the angst of Season 6 & half of Season 7, I personally would like to see him heal just a bit, not continue in this downward spiral.
Change is great, as long as the change doesn't turn into repitition. I don't want just the same old, same old...
Dear Diane and Donnajo-
Oddly enough, I agree with you both-
Let's not condemn Leight for the changes with Goren's character-
We know that Vincent needed change in order to keep himself not just walking through the scripts-
That is Vincent's nature as to the kind of actor he is and we must accept that and not be blaming Leight for this-
I doubt that Vincent would have remained all these years doing the same old Bobby-
But I do agree that I miss many of the old Bobby ways and perhaps now would be a good time to let go of some of the angst and perhaps resume more of the original Bobby with new twists-
I always liked the vignettes when Goren and Eames played their little undercover games, such as husband and wife buying shoes or linoleum, maybe that angle could be used to bring excitement to Vincent but also bring back some of the old Bobby-
As far as the new intro for CI and the music, I thought it gave CI a great shot in the arm-
Regi.
Hmm, let's see: Bobby's mother has died, telling him she didn't exactly know who his father was, but one candidate was a serial killer, his brother is a useless, major-league a**hole, he was tortured in a prison and he's been suspended. I'd say those were definitely grounds for a 'funk' ;0)
I'm sure, as things go along, dear Bobby will come out the other side of all his trauma. I love what they're doing with the show, and the characters (who wants 'just another cop show' anyway?) but Vincent is SO wonderful at the funny stuff, I'd like that back...Top spot of what people miss most over on the USA site is Bobby's humor.
I'm sure we'll all be rewarded for our patience in the end. Roll on SUNDAY!
Lizzie
I agree with those who preferred Balcer's stories to Leight's. Personal scenes are fine, but not when they take over what used to be a tremendous psychological mystery with great humor and chemistry between Goren/Eames to boot. I do miss the title cards and oh that original score! (though losing that may have been USA's fault).
In short, would it be too much to hope for some help from Rene Balcer now, to help get CI back to its roots?
