Reader's Jeer of the Week: A Criminal Omission
Jeers to the Emmys! Vincent D’Onofrio should have been nominated for his Emmy-worthy performance in the “Untethered” episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The Emmys also snubbed him last year for “Endgame.” D’Onofrio is such a talented actor, and his portrayal of Detective Robert Goren is so worthy of an Emmy. Why do the Emmys overlook such extremely wonderful talent? ....posted by LOCInumber1fan

Great comment and absolutely correct observation-
Regi.
96% agree - and 4% have no brain ;0)
As I said elsewhere on this subject, Vincent doesn't need any awards to validate his work, or himself. He values his independence and does what 'the @#?* he wants' as he so eloquently puts it - which is why he'll probably never win anything that the 'establishment' has any part of. At least WE know he's wonderful - it's everyone elses loss if they don't!
This just came flagged up for me in my Google alerts and I thought "Aha! I am not alone in my bonkers raving, then!"
Off to vote, now :)
Yes, yes, all of that is true. You all have said it so well that there is no need to re-iterate. So, I will just add this: Another sorely overlooked performance by Vincent was 'Siren Call.' The entire scene when he is in the den with the stepfather is brilliant. It is one of my all-time favorite performances of his. And the very last scene when he is in the suv with Eames and he just says nothing in response to her question about whether he is o.k. is very moving. There are just no awards that would sufficiently reward Mr. D'Onofrio's talents.
It's so hard to lose hope...Even when your dreams are shattered over and over again...Last year Tony Shalhoub literally asked the Emmy voters to "open their hearts"...!! I was planning on asking them to
“ open their MINDS and their EYES" so maybe -just maybe- they could see Mr. "D'Onofrio's talent and -above that- hard work, year after year after year...But then something dawned on me: "Eureka!!!! They're wiser than us normal people! They're the experts, the "know-alls"!! They've got a plan too: Ignoring Vincent for some twenty more years, then giving him a "Lifetime Achievement Award"!!!!! Superb now, isn't it?!! It's like: "Um...Dude; we always kinda liked ya; we know you were better; but we liked the others BETTER....!!!! Now, there you are... No hard feelings; eh?".....If you don't believe me, just look back and name all the genuine talents that've been treated this way.....I just wish that somehow Vincent comes across these comments, and has the time- and the patience!- to read them, and just know that "people understand"...
I just have to wonder what rock these people have their heads stuck under. If I could find it, I would stomp on it...
This year's batch of TV drama nominations was atrocious. "The Wire" received one lousy nomination, for Best Writing in a Dramatic Series (considering the show won the Writer's Guild Award in the category, it's the least they could do). The omission of "The Wire"
from most major categories mystifies me. ("Boston Legal" isn't even a drama, for Chrissakes.)
Dear ebrown2112-
I couldn't agree with you more-
Vincent, Kate and CI in general are not the only ones snubbed for the Emmys-
Yes The Wire definitely should have been nominated-
I also look at programs like NCIS which I have watched since it's beginning and still enjoy-
Though no one there can match the acting intensity of Vincent, shouldn't David McCallum have been nominated at some time for his wonderful portrayal of Ducky-
The Emmy nominating committee seems to get stuck on certain shows or actors, some of which are really not worthy or at least not repetitively worthy-
Regi.
I still say it's because Mr. D'Onofrio doesn't and won't play the "Hollywood" game.
There is not much more to add that already hasn't been said about Vincent's extrodinary talent. True, he needs no awards from those lessers in the business. Who, in their right mind would want to accept something from phonies? Envy is not becoming and they show their true colors by ignoring him. There are so many examples of his abilities as a great actor. He is simply "Brilliant". Who needs it. He has independence, self-worth and pure TALENT. That's why I love him!
