"Frame" commentary

Season Finale: "Frame"
So much happened before the opening credits I knew this was going to be a great episode. We see it was Goren’s mothers birthday and he is surprised to find a photo of him and his brother as kids left at her grave. In the opening we also see Goren’s brother Frank at a support meeting, then later in his apartment drugged out when a knock at the door reveals…Goren’s arch nemesis – Nicole Wallace!
After not reaching his brother on the phone the night before Goren decides to go to the apartment of his brother only to stumble upon a crime scene that has his brother as the victim. Preliminary police reports say Frank committed suicide by taking a nose dive out his apartment window. Eames and even Captain Ross investigate further into the case, and we learn from Dr. Rodgers that Frank was murdered by given a drug to stop breathing.
Nicole sends “Bobbie” flowers at the precinct sealed with a kiss as a signature with a note that reads, “Oh, this is the poison of deep grief.” Now, thinking back to my literature courses, I recall that this is said by Claudius in Hamlet, Act 4 referencing how the grief of the death of Ophelia’s father had clouded her mind. Was Nicole trying to say that all the grief in Goren’s life had clouded his mind? Full article

Wow, Criminal Intense!
I was slightly afraid this would be a jump-the-shark episode, but the writers really delivered. It was awesome the way they tied up loose ends and freed Goren from the thick cloud that's taken the edge off his brilliance. Love the Hamlet reference.
This commentator questions whether Bobby is really free. I think it showed in his face at the end. This opens up fresh performance possibilities now for Vincent.
Bravo Vincent, Kate and everyone who have worked so hard on this show. Criminal Intent is great TV!
I was amazed by the whole episode-amazing job-but how is Bobby free-his brother is dead, not from a drug overdose, but murdered because of his relationship to Bobby, his Mom is dead, his thought to be father is dead, his biological father was a serial killer and he's dead, his mentor has gone nuts, his partner was kidnapped because of her relationship to him and his nephew is still missing-
Doesn't sound like freedom to me-
Regi.
I predict the highest ratings ever - and deservedly so (even tho' I have to wait a little while yet to see it)
I just knew Bobby drove a Mustang!
And I'll believe Nicole is dead
when I see the body........
Is it November yet?
Robert Goren
tormented by life and loved by murders.
nicoles last words....
the son Dec never had....
knowing his father could have very well murdered his mother, but he spared her, because he loved her.
his mother favored his brother over him because he was born from a taudry affair.
frank lied to the mother of his son and said that he asked for help with his nephew and Bobby never came through. after hearing that, i was glad he bit the dust
jo resented Bobby for being the apple of her fathers eye.
he's had 3 people stand by him...
Eames.....always
Deacon.. at the podium, when he was profiling the lady who killed to get a settlement so she could by a baby clothes francise
and
Carver, when he trusted bobbys instincts to let a suspect lead them to her murdering boyfriend after telling her the boyfriend gave her h.i.v.
amazing how they but it all together.
it was an edge of your seat eppie for sure.
We all know in real life, pain makes us stronger. Something tells me season 8 is going to be juicy.
phillipo
Regina, I think Goren is free because he doesn't need to be responsible anymore for Frank, his mother, or for being the catalyst for Nicole's crimes. He doesn't need to wonder about his paternity, but in this finally seemed resolved that he himself had no more of a bent toward murder than Eames. Most of all, I think he felt absolved when Gage pointed out that he had done all he could for his mom and brother even though they never appreciated that.
This episode was perfect, the script and the acting, everything.
I have watched it twice already and will be watching it again before the day it out.
Loved the little bit at the beginning that was a nod to earlier episodes where goren and eames were interogating the suspects.
Also loved the ending with Goren and Declan, it was heartbreaking to see Goren so distraught.
It was the best episode ever, but just wait til the emmys come round again and criminal intent and vincent will be passed over again. It's a good job vincent knows that the people who count, the fans, appreciate his work.
Can't wait to see what they have in store for Goren in November, I could have sworn it was going to be a cliffhanger. And yes I know that was a non sequitur!
Wishing you all lots of patience for the next 3 months

Not only were the performances outstanding, but the writing was simply stellar. What a great way for the "Warren Leight" team to exit. They created some wondeful two-year arcs in storylines, and tied up their own loose ends quite nicely. Bravo! A most memorable season finale!
Trcyk63 said, i totally agree with you regina. I think that Bobbie is not free because he didn't find out who killed his brother yet, so he really was unable to grieve properly over it. Also i think that this is going to be a second part to this somehow where eames will get a chance to finally help him get the proper freedom that he deserves, in finding his nephew Donnie and solving the case with his brother, on who murdered him and to give him the support that he needs to get through this difficult time in his life. Hopefully that is how the writers do it. That is just my opinion. Tracey
Sigh; sigh...
It's getting unbarable for me to wait for "Frame" - and I'll have to be waiting for a long time....
Thank god for all the teasers, spoilers, recaps and reviews, that I could get my teeth - or rather, my internet connection- into, and helped me get a minor gripp of it.
So, now I dare to make a few comments, just like all of you "know-all"s who have actually watched the rollercoaster.
I belive that Nicole is not dead -and she did not necessaryly contaminate the severed heart with her tissue samples, or have a heart transplant... She broke into the police records, and switched her DNA sample.
It was her, who manipulated Declan - not the other way around.
Considering that being imaginative, is tax-free -at least for the time being- I dare to imagine that she -with a litte help from a "know-around", like Declan- could have switched Brady's samples too...!!(Don't tell me such a beast ,as Nicole, was not capable of all this)
And I believe she'll return; it's just a matter of time. She's a handy recurrent character, there's always room for her (whether we like it or not!) She shouldn't go to waste; just like Dec and Jo.
It's interesting, how Bobby's been surrounded by so many monsters, his whole life; monsters he loved, praised,or loved to figure out.
Some of them are presumingly out of the picture; but he might have been left with Donny: a burden, an active source of trouble and torment -but maybe, maybe, all that's left of Bobby's unbelievable family.
The shadow of all the others, will follow him, for the rest of his life.
I've seen this twice and could have sworn Declan admitted he antagonized Nicole, but she did kill Frank. We did see her kiss the envelope that accompanied the flowers to 1 PP.
The postmark on her boxed heart was prior to Declan's attack however. The card with the flowers at the hospital was typewritten (by Declan).
I may be naive, but I believe Nicole is really dead and the whole gang is ready to move on.
Tryck,
Bobby does know who killed his brother. It was Nicole, manipulated by Declan (that's the info given to us from the show, people have interpreted differently)
That was one hell of a rip-roaring episode. Vincent and John Glover played so well off of each other, it was just plain fun to watch. If there is any justice in the world, the writers, Vincent, Glover and the director will all nominated for Emmys, but we all know how that goes so I'm not putting any money on it.
I'm sure I just missed it but... in the promo they showed someone (Eames?) going across a table after someone. Was that at the very beginning or was it not shown? Overall liked the episode even if it might have tied things up a little too neatly (especially Nicole's demise).
Thanks
Loved the epi..but could Brady really be Gorens father. Frances was a very small woman and Brady a very small man, interesting that the writers decided they could produce a 6 ft. 4 inch offspring. Just a thought from a small person :)
"Frame" was fabulous! The writing and the acting all came together on a ride to hell for Bobby. So sad. Tender and sad. Hopefully S8 will take Bobby on a ride back ... to self confidence, self worth, and ... a girlfriend!
P.S. Eames is the best friend anyone could ever ask for!
Chancealot;
I agree with you on the paternity issue...
Actually, the lack of any physical similarity, was what I had in mind, too.
But I'm pretty sure, that's the basis for more roller-coaster rides in the following saeson -the following "seasons", hopefully.
