Is Nicole Really Dead?

TVGuide.com, 9.3.08
Senior editors Matt Mitovich and Mickey O'Connor answer your questions!

"Is Law & Order: CI's Nicole Wallace (Olivia d'Abo) really dead? I thought that the finale's twist — the bloody heart, Declan's involvement — was sort of ambiguous."
— Jose

Mickey: I'm hearing from at least one source that the initial plans for the Nicole Wallace storyline may be changed, in part due to this season's casting changes (to recap: Big out, Fly in). Whether that means she was once supposed to be dead and now isn't, your guess is as good as Goren's. A USA rep declined to comment on Wallace's fate.

All she had to do was alter the DNA database. It's well within her skill set, I'd say.

Now, that's what I'm talking about...!!

Of course, our guesses are as good as Goren's -and for now, Goren could be a little confused.....

"Nicole's fate changing, due to the recent casting change", could mean either way -either she was supposed to be dead, but now she isn't, or she was supposed to come back, but she wouldn't anymore.... And from the looks of it, I'm afraid that the latter seems to be the case.

As I've mentioned before, Nicole's a handy recurrant character; and there's always room for her, on CI. She shouldn't go to waste; and neither should Declan and Jo. They can still play lots of merry-go-'rounds and roller-coasters with our Bobby Goren...!!

All that Nicole needs for a come back, is the chance of her, having broken into the police records, and switched her DNA sample -with a little help from Declan.

But all we can do, for now, is wait and see.... And With the possible actors'strike, blurring the horizon, only heaven knows for how long....

Bobby's "gut" is always right. "You can't kill Nicole...she's got nine lives." But I do hate the thought of that witch coming back. I was so hoping we had seen the last of her.

Show me her corpse-with-an-empty-chest-cavity, THEN I'll relax....

If Nicole is "still alive," beyond the DNA thing, there would still have to be some sort of explanation as to why Declan would lie about killing her. That's where I have an even bigger problem than the DNA switcheroo. Of course, talented writers can spin almost anything into "plausible." LOL

I wish they would just leave her dead. Altering the NYPD DNA database would be too unrealistic for a realistic show like Law & Order.

Maybe Nicole has a twin sisters with whom she shares multiple personalities through psychic bond? DNA switcheroo in the database (as Val mentioned)? Nicole had a heart transplant and is making use of the extra parts? Rodger's is actually Nicole's mother, falsified results, and is feeding Nicole inside info on Goren?

Okay, my explanations aren't that plausible, but hey, this Q&A from TV Guide really had me saying "for pete's sake! why why why???"

Although, i guess it is somewhat plausible that Declan's dying mind could have misconstrued the actual sequence of events or who he was even dealing with. In the CI-verse, Nicole wouldn't be stupid enough to miss the signs that Bobby picked up on either...maybe she took advantage of the situation as well?

I think it's kinda interesting that they're messing around with the plots (and fans) this way. It, at the very least, will be inspiring a lot of fanfic until they decide to address the issue again.

Only if Goren slips into a coma and Eames discovers Ross is the father of her illegitimate child while Rodgers discovers Goren is her long-lost half-brother will I change the channel--and even then, I'd probably at least watch the first few minutes :-p

Yes, why would Declan help her in making Bobby think she was dead? Declan's mind is all warped now, so he's the one who can be easily tricked, maybe, not Nicole. Nicole must have told Declan that she loves Bobby. After all, he did deliver that message for her. Declan wanted to eliminate the problems in Goren's life, including Nicole. They might have come to an agreement that she could "eliminate" herself by faking death.

Snarkangle;

I hate to be so "repetetive" today, but as mentioned before, Nicole so professionally manipulated Declan .....

Maybe he -Declan- believes that he's lieing for Bobby's good, or some greater good.

Considering, that being imaginative is still tax-free, let's say nicole was Declan's "love child", the kind of daughter, whom he admired far more than poor Jo, and coudln't bring himself to kill....

And, I stil think that Nicole has even switched Brady's DNA data, too.

It pays to think crazy........You could become a writer.

Isn't it fun to speculate even though we have a long wait for a new episode?
I'm not sure what the Big/Fly cast change has to do with Nicole's story arc, but I believe she's dead and everyone (including me) is ready for a new white whale. I will miss the literary references, though. RIP.

Of couse; if -due to cast changes- Nicole can't come back there'd have to be another white whale.

I'd likt her to be a brunett, by the way, really young, really cute. That ought to make the evil in her, interesting enough !!

Not so fast, Philipo;

Bobby's character is based on Sherlock Holmes.

Holmes' nemesis, Dr. Moriarty -whom in an odd, yet, interesting coincidence, Vincent has played a few years ago- drove him over the edge -literally. Holmes was an addict.

Although I, personally, prefer some better days in our poor Bobby's life, but think you'll agree with me, that a character like Nichole, is seriously needed on Ci -whether we like it not.

Goren, is a very strong, complex character; a somewhat equally strong, complex character is definitely needed, to creat drama in Goren's storyline (if you don't believe me, ask your "Drama Queen").

Most of the times, "one epi" characters, are not capable of creating such a lasting effect; so, there you have it....

Taking a look back at the long way, that Vincent's Bobby has come, at the very least shows us, that he can never go back, to his days of ignorance -if there ever actually was any.

I'm afraid, that Bobby's strives for truth, would eventually lead to self destruction.

There is no other path, feasible for him -it's his faith- and Nicole is merely a symbol, of all the elements, put together, to lead our poor Hamlet, to his inevitable ending -one step at a time.

Just hope, that it'd be an ending Bobby'd favor.

okay saghy2,

so why not spring one of his old cases, and let them torment him a little.

or perhaps someone's relative out for revenge. or even nicoles long lost...even crazier cousin

anything other than one of those cheesy soap opera come backs!.

we saw her heart in a box, we got a confession with her last words attached to it.

dont bother bringing her back.

give bobby some one new and even more sinester than nicole.

another chick would be good to keep his juices flowing,

some one with long black hair and exotic features, beautiful yet creepy.

maybe a girlfriend of one of his arrested developments?

i dont know..just not her again

maybe there could be a prison break, i loved the guy with the french accent(dont remember the name of the eppie) or the whistle blower or even his older, geekier brother.

there are lots of possibilities.

so bobby can say,

"great, we've got another nicole on our hands, but this time they wont get away!"

and so... there is a new white whale, with a new "signature" for murder (like nicoles needle in the side) a serial killer who leaves him tormenting clues leading him on, maybe even his nephew, who thinks its bobby's fault that his father was murdered..

if i dont stop NBC/USA may offer me job ....LOL

any way...like i said, anything but her again. this is LOCI not All My Children.

I agree with phillipo, let nichole stay dead, what's Bobby going to do, come out of the shower to realize it was all dream, like Dallas. Although the shower scene would be great. What do you say Phillipo!

Anyway after getting hold of a copy of The Velocity of Gary at last, I can't look at Olivia D'abo [spelling?] without thinking of her as a porn star making comments about Valentino's attributes, lol. By the way that kiss, whether you're male or female it is the best kiss on screne ever, ever, ever.

As Phillipo says the writers must be able to come up with a new nemesis. I have always been suprised that other bad guys haven't come looking for Bobby, or friends or relatives, when it's so obvious they're going down once Bobby's got his beady eyes on them.

Roll on November

Okay; okay; Okay........!!

I WON'T BRING HER BACK; PROMISS....!!

(As if I was Dick Wolf, or someone on the decision board, or something....!!)

But I think you'll agree with me, that Nicole's character, has been successful in its mission... Even you, compare Goren's every other possible to be nemesis to Nicoles "standards".

She has been -they all have been- able to creat this feeling of deep and utter hatered -maybe mixed with a dash of fear, and a sense of security, not to be around her- about Nicole, in most of us. We should give'em that. Nicole's a well designed, well executed character...

I thank Ms. D'abo, Mr.D'Onofrio, Ms. Erbe, the writers, the whole cast & crew, for their efforts on this....

By the way, we saw "A heart" in a box, and some hear-say last words, from a man "with diminishing mental capasities", who'd eat a "month-old turkey" -there's just a very tiny mini, little difference, now, isn't there...??

But rest assured, 'cause from the looks of it, the "cast changes" could very much mean, that she won't be back.

But her character has marked an impression, and any other viliain to possibly enter this game, should have a rather tough time, living up to her standards...
