SAG members back guild

Variety, 9.17.08
Poll finds support for negotiations strategy
By DAVE MCNARY

In a sign that the SAG stalemate with the majors will persist, an overwhelming number of SAG members responding to a guild survey have endorsed the current strategy of holding out for a better deal.
More than 87% of the 10,293 respondees backed SAG leaders, who have insisted that the guild must receive better terms than those in the final offer by the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers.

Wednesday’s announcement of the results hardened positions on both sides. Even though the poll generated less than 10% response from the 103,630 dues-current members, SAG leaders trumpeted the numbers as a clear demonstration of strong rank-and-file support for the guild’s stay-tough stance.

In response, the AMPTP ridiculed SAG’s poll as "a farce." The group insisted again that it’s not going to revise the final offer it made in June — and gave a strong hint that it may reduce the deal’s value should the economy continue to sour.

SAG national exec director Doug Allen said the response reflects the "resolve" that leaders have seen from members since negotiations started in April.

I don't understand how the Guild can be so confident they are getting an accurate picture of what their members want, when only 10% of their membership actually BOTHER to vote on this crucial topic.

i dont get it..

i remember when actors on the stupid shows of the 90s, like friends, seinfield, and boob watch were being paid stupid amounts of money to sit around and act silly. i hated those show, but(in my pinion) the actors got paid way more than they were worth

and here we have people like vince and kate, rene and warren who work every year with out raises

and what..
these people think the price of gas i still $2.99 a gallon? they dont think the cost of living and te rate of pay are not mathcing up?

its rediculous for them to even have to go to the table, raisesm health insurance, benefits, all of this should be automatic!!!

oh, i am so pissed about the way they are treating them.

what ever we can do, let us kmow when the time comes. i'll put a bumper sticker on my car, i'll tape a picket sign to the bumber, i'll spear my front lawn with posters and banners, this is maddening.

i told "angels" about this and she asked me to post the following...on
behalf of vincent and kate

the people who are causing this problem are a bunch of....

"@#$%#@*!!!!!!"

and she doesnt even swear

10% isn't THAT much 'resolve' there Doug.... Maybe you should concern yourself with the 90% who didn't even bother to vote?

Hummm....

The SAG members prefer to work under the expired contract, than to accept the new one....

Less that 10% of them, even bother to respond to the poll...

What about the other 90%.....??

Simply, "NOT INTERESTED".......??

Food for thought -just, not so tasty.....
