TIFF Update
We just received an email from Kelly with the PR firm handling the film "The Narrows" at the Toronto Film Festival.
Vincent was scheduled to be interviewed at CTV but she informed us that "Vincent won't be in Toronto this year. He had to back-out unfortunately."
We have already contacted Christi [Sevs_Girl72].

OMG!!! I just arrived in Toronto solely because Vincent was scheduled to be here. As a long time fan, I was aware that Vincent not showing up was always a possibility. However, I am very dissappointed, to say the least. Lozzie, I have now officially joined you in weeping tears of total, utter frustration.
Vincent's family lives in florida and they might be in the path of the next hurricane. I am sure he is watching out for them.

We are so sorry NLFan. We posted the information as soon as we were told.
Florida is not in any danger from Ike right now. I am in Florida and it looks like, at worst, we will get rain. So, that isn't the reason he didn't attend the TIFF.
wow,
i hope he and his family are okay.
maybe he's trying to enjoy his family before he goes back to work. his vacation was so short. i cant really say that i'd blame him.
he starts work again in a week or so. he needs to rest and chill for a while.
phillipo and friends
i feel bad for those of u who flew over but what an experience it must be to be in toranto, and who know who else u may meet.
thank the Gods and Goddesses that u are safe and healthy and even though u are a little unhappy... you are living the dream for all of us. alteast u get to see his film.
NLFan,
I am so sorry that this has happened! *hugs*
I truly hope you can at least enjoy the rest of the festival, there is so many other people to meet, and things to do. I have to say I'm am pretty sore about having to miss him as well, but I'm sure he has a good reason. Someone [Ralph Fiennes] did save my day after this heart breaking tragedy, I hope you'll find someone too.
Try and have fun! And give me a call if you need anything^.^
Christi And NLfan;
My deepest sympathy.
But, I agree with Phillipo; look at the bright side and count your blessings.
Let's hope that all's well for our favourite guy, and he just decided to have more time to himself and his famiy, before work begins.
And I sincerely wish safety for the people of Florida, and everywhere else....
If I was into producing and directing, like Mr. DÓnofrio, I'd make a movie about NLfan and Chriti's experience -long or short- it has many melodramatic capabilities.
Well, so long as you are there, watch "The Naroows" - for all of us.
It's the idea behind your efforts, that counts.
Saghy
We have to remember, Vincent starts filming next Monday, he has a script to learn, and maybe script meetings, it's possible Leila is visiting before she goes back to school next week. There are all sorts of reasons, some personal, some business, that may have caused him to change his plans at the last minute. Disappointing though it is for everyone who made the trip - and I was damn near on a plane from the UK! - let's give him a break please. I'm sure it's not a decision he made lightly and we have to respect that.
NLFan I am so so sorry. Never would I have wished for you to be joining me here in the Weepy Corner.
Let us just hope that Vincent is OK, and that you get home safely NLFan.
Thanks everyone. After posting here yesterday I called Christi and Dulcineadonna who were equally disappointed. However, we vowed to make the best of it. Personally, I went out and drowned my sorrows in an Appletini followed by a lovely meal at a Japanese restaurant near my hotel. I am looking forward to meeting Dulcineadonna later today and "The Narrows" premiere this evening.
Part of the reason why I am such a big Vincent fan is because he is not your typical celebrity. I'm aware that he is not fond of these events. With Vincent, his family and other pressing work commitments would certainly take precedence over a "celebrity" event. However, meeting Vincent was a long cherished dream and the loss of it requires some adjustment. Others, including myself, have endured much, much worse so I'm going to go out now and enjoy the rest of my trip.
Have a great time, NLFan and enjoy the film. Please stop by and let us know how you liked it.
Thanks "reel" and thanks also for posting the cancellation notice yesterday. Where else would Vincent fans get such up to date information? We'd be lost without you. I will drop back later with some comments after the screening of "The Narrows".
We look forward to it! Give our best to the other ladies.
So sorry to hear that Vincent wont be there.
But looking forward to hearing a review of The Narrows.
Take care
Joy
What great fans Vincent has-Bravo to you-I know what a disappointment it is to me and I wasn't even going to be there so I know how disappointed you must be-
I really don't want anything to be seriously wrong in Vincent's life that made him back out but then again I hope it was something very important-
I was so hoping that The Narrows would do well and of course, movies need the pr and press that comes along with these festivals-
He managed to go to the Nashville one where he wasn't promoting a film and was not in the category of the TIFF, so I was so hoping he would be there-

to nlfan, cristi and dulcineadonns
im just curious...
how far did each of u have to travel in your attempt to see our vincent?
kudos, smooches and big hugs to all of you for the "brass ones" to take the chance
how are u all doing now?
we r truely concerned
phillipo and friends
Phillipo,
I didn't have to travel at all really, I live in Toronto about half-hour away from where the festival is taking place.
So as heartbreaking as it was to me, I can't even begin to imagine what the others who actually came from far away are going through.
Personally, I'm lucky that someone had the brilliant idea to create Viggo Mortensen and Ralph Fiennes, they have helped me get over missing Vincent.
~Christi
does anyone know the reason for vincent's sudden back out from attending? of course with vincent being so private about everything. us fans may never know. hopefully he will share his reason with all his fans. and will let us all know everything is ok. i am not saying he doesn't have a right to privacy. but some celebrities are a little too private if you know what i mean. which makes me wonder about them.
sevsgirl72,
i cant say i know the people u mentioned but im glad they were there for u.
good thing u didnt have to travel, i would have been devistated,
it would have been like climbing the mountain to see the dali lama and finding a note that says "gone fishing"
and yes, we all know mr d is an introvert. it takes alot for him to come out and do this kind of stuff.can't see him spilling beans on himself, but ya never know.
he's a cancer man...
whadda ya gonna do?

NEW POST RE: THE NARROWS
Tonight's presentation at TIFF was the world premiere for this movie.
The very first scene opens with a still shot of Vinnie Manadoro, aka VDO. This movie was harder, graphic and softer in places than I expected. The role of Vinnie, Mike Manadoro's(the main character) father is far more extensive in the movie than in the book, upon which this movie is based. He is also 'softer' as in not so rough and gruff. All the cast do well, especially Kevin Zegers as Mike and Vincent as Vinnie. And for the die hard LOCI fans, you will recognize a number of other NY actors in supporting roles. This is definately a tale for mature audiences, and I don't wanty to get into the story line for those who are yet to see it, but a lot of the language is colourful and hard and there are 3 very graphic (violent) scenes, one of which in particular my friend and I discussed should be seriously toned down for general release, but that's only our opinion based on our own sensibilities. We were pleasently surprised with the extended development of Vincent's character, and he 'plays' it beautifully...and considering he went into this just 2 weeks after the rap of Season 6, he looks/looked absolutely fabulous...lol. The main story is that of Mike, his struggles and his choices, but the other, strong undercurrent is the story of his and his father's relationship.....and this is where Vincent truely shines, he manages to portray the love and devotion to his son and his welfare without compromising the understanding of the harsh world in which they live and operate.......their last scene together is priceless and received bursts of applause and cheers from the audience......to be honest it was the character of Vinnie that garnered the most response from the audience.
There was a nice surprise at the end of the movie when the director, François A. Velle
Sphia Bush , Kevin Zegers and 2 of the producers came out from the audience for a Q&A on the stage.
François acknowledged that he had received an email from Vincent and read it to the audience a little while later. No reason for not showing up just a shout out an Hi to his castmatres and an "eh" to everyone attending...( that's the canadian equivalent )
So that's my little report, hope you enjoyed it and YES I would definately recommend seeing this movie as and when you can, keeping in mind what I said earlier about it being a mature theme.
This is a movie all contributors can be proud of,especially Kevin, and with no bias I can honestly say a genuine BRAVA to Vincent as yet again, he really stole the show.
I did some research on the internet, but came up with nothing....!!
The suspense is kiling me -and the curiosity....!!
But, seriously, came up with NOTHING.
The truth is, that Vincent's fans -including me- are simply worried, hoping, that everything's OK.....
I know, that if Mr. D'Onofio wished to "publicize", he would at least HAVE A "PUBLICIST" -meaning, he, obviously, doesn't want to, and we should, definitely, respect his decision- but that's not much of a comfort either.
Apparently, only Vincent -or, maybe, Bobby Goren- can solve this puzzle.......
Ideas are welcome, by the way.....
"I LOVED IT". Those three words best describe my reaction to "The Narrows". It is a wonderful movie. I was totally engrossed from beginning to end. I have not read the book so I was not at all expecting the "twist" from Vincent's character near the end. I wasn't the only one surprised because the audience broke into laughter and applause. LOCI/Bobby Goren fans will be happy to know that there is a scene where Vincent even does a little dance.
Vincent delivers his usual great performance but I was also very impressed with Kevin Zegers who played Vincent's son. I thought he did a fabulous job. I didn't know that he is a Canadian who lives right here in Toronto. I predict big things for him. There was prolonged applause from the audience at the end of the movie. IMHO this movie has big box office appeal. I hope they get a good distributor for it.
Bottom line: Two thumbs way up from me. I'm actually really looking forward to seeing it again tomorrow night (now tonight actually). There was so much going on in every scene that I know I didn't catch everything the first time around.
The Director Francois Velle was there tonight as was Kevin Zegers, Sophia Bush, screenwriter Tatiana Blackington and other members of the cast and crew. Mr. Velle was introduced and said a few words before the screening and again at the end at which time Kevin, Sophia, Tatiana and several others (whom I unfortunately can't recall) were also introduced and said a few words. It was heartbreaking to think that Vincent might also have been there. They then spent quite a while answering questions from the audience. The director read out an e-mail message from Vincent. He said he was sorry he couldn't be there and also explained why the did the role. He said there were three reasons: it was shot in Brooklyn where he grew up; the character he played was very much like the men he knew when he was growing up there; the quality of the others attached to the film. He didn't address his reason for not coming to Toronto.
Dulcineadonna and I were a bit late leaving the theatre and found the Director and the screenwriter both in the lobby with very few others around. We approached them, congratulated them both, got our tickets autographed and then said we were both big fans of Vincent and asked him to pass on a message of "Congratulations" to Vincent for an excellent performance, a sentiment which both Mr. Velle and Ms. Blackington said they totally agreed with. Dulcineadonna then asked Mr. Velle what it was like to work with Vincent. Mr. Velle said that at first he was a bit anxious because he had heard that working with Vincent could be challenging. He said that nothing could be further from the truth. He said they worked together "with love and respect" (exact words). He said Vincent was a big help to him and others because of his knowledge of the area and its culture. He also said that he wished he could take credit, but how the "reveal" scene was done (where everybody laughed and applauded) was totally Vincent's idea. He said that at the end of filming Vincent gave him a big hug, told him he loved him and said to give him a call if he ever needed anything. Mr Velle said "Vincent is a great guy with a big heart" (exact quote). Dulcineadonna and I both agreed that speaking about Vincent with someone who actually knows him was the highlight of our night. Hopefully tomorrow night (tonight now)we will get a chance to talk to some of the other cast about working with Vincent.
In other news, Dulcineadonna and I actually met for the first time today. We have a lot in common and really got along great together. It was wonderful to share the experience with another Vincent fan.
Phillipo, with respect to your question, my home is 2987 kilometers (1851 miles) from Toronto. I flew here on Sunday and despite my disappointment in not seeing Vincent, I'm not sorry I came. I'll be leaving again on Wednesday. Dulcineadonna lives on the outskirts of Toronto, approximately one hour driving time from the area where the Film Festival events are taking place.
I'll post again with another update tomorrow night.
IF Vincent wants to 'share', no doubt he will, but frankly it's none of our business. His life is his life, just like anyone elses. It could be that he was on that gigantic guest list because he happens to be in a movie they were showing, and they were hoping he'd accept an invite. He didn't ask us to share the fringers of his life and he owes us NOTHING - period. We have no 'right' to anything from him.
NEW POST

PATERNAL OUTLOOK: "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" star Vincent D'Onofrio says his upcoming indie film, "The Narrows," struck a personal chord with him. D'Onofrio, a father to two in real life, plays Kevin Zegers's father in the coming-of-age story about a young man caught between two worlds. "I think what happens with me when I'm playing a father is it takes on a life of its own," says D'Onofrio. "It's just something that you just feel like you can play, and while the camera's rolling, I feel so emotional and so open. This fatherhood thing really is something." He adds, "Kevin's a great kid, and we got along really well. We're a father-and-son team in the movie, and it was touching for me. It's a very emotional situation between a father and son, and being a father now, it comes naturally. … I think it opens all your emotions when you're acting as a father."
Thank you NLfan and Ammiratore for sharing your thoughts on the film with us. We have posted your reviews on the blog as well so no one misses them.
I'm sure that, IF Vincent committed to being in Toronto, he didn't take the decision not to go lightly. I just hope that he and his family are well and that it's just something that cropped up that meant he had to make a late change in his plans. Given that he's apologised by email for not being there, he obviously feels bad about it. We have to remember, we have no claim on the man, or his life, beyond enjoying his work, and wishing him health and happiness, and he's absolutely entitled to his privacy. I can't believe anyone might find this somehow 'odd' or that it gives them cause to 'wonder', making it sound as if he's doing something unsavoury, or dabbling in the black arts ;)
We're not 'owed' any explanations for anything he does, or doesn't, do.
I just hope that the 'limited release' tag on 'The Narrows' doesn't mean some of us have to wait for it to come out on DVD before we get to see it. Then again, we're pretty good at 'waiting' aren't we!
