USA delays 'Criminal Intent' premiere

Hollywood Reporter, 10.9.08

Show will be best in an uninterrupted run, network says.

USA Network has pushed back the eighth-season premiere of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" to first-quarter 2009.

The show, originally intended to return to the schedule next week and air as a split season, will now have an uninterrupted 16-week run when it returns with new cast member Jeff Goldblum.

"The show is in great shape," a spokesperson said. "USA believed that 'CI's' new season was so strong that it would be best presented in an uninterrupted run of 16 episodes. As a strategic move based on the overall TV landscape and in this economy, it made sense to maximize the value of 'CI' by moving to 2009."

USA Network has been showing a lot of ads for the new Jeff Goldblum-infused season of Law and Order: Criminal Intent. The new episodes are supposed to start on November 7, but now it looks like the show has been delayed until some time next year.

This morning the network confirmed that the new season of the show won't start until 2009. They say it will be "early 2009," but then again they first said the show would come back on November 6, then November 7, and now there has been another delay. It's odd that a network would have all of these ads for a show so close to the premiere date and then pull the show for several months. USA hasn't said why they've done this.

i wonder why these people didnt think of this before getting us all excited about the new season,

it does seem logical, i was surprised at how soon they were airing season 8 with the finale of 7 being just a month or so ago.

so its after the holiday hoopla with the christmas specials and people wanting to spend quality time with the fams.

i get that

lets just hope that we're talking early january.

we'll wait...it will all be over(the holidays) before we know it

i dont want to say happy halloween because its nothing to be happy about unless u like tummy aches and dentures in your future and for your children.

but for those of u who participate

have fun, be safe

Basically, it SUCKS, and makes USA look like they have NO idea what they're doing with their highest-rating show ever! And to shower it with 'praise' AFTER they've pulled it smacks of desperation to justify it. I hope everyone boycotts them until we have our show back. Maybe if their viewer numbers take a dip, they'll realise how seriously p***ed off we are :0(

As someone who lives in the U.S., I have to disagree and say that the USA network has not done a great many ads for CI-
And what they have shown is just a mock up of Vincent and Kate from past episodes and one handcuff scene with Jeff and Julianne-
I was thinking maybe they postponed it because of the impending strike and then other shows would be showing repeats but CI would be new episodes-
Well sixteen episodes is still better than eleven and as a loyal Vincent fan, you get to know that patience is indeed a virtue-

USA believed that 'CI's' new season was so strong that it would be best presented in an uninterrupted run of 16 episodes.

Or does this mean that the Goldblum/Nicholson episodes are so weak that if they split the season viewers won't even tune in to Vincent & Katie later?

I hate this - I was so looking forward to next week (although not thrilled about the Friday's either)! I have new blank VHS tapes ready to go!

You'd think TPTB would have at least one well paid brain in the bunch. The "excuse" sounds logical but, no one thought of postponement earlier?? Are TPTB that stupid or are they really trying to sabotage the show? I don't trust them. I think TPTB need to go to "OZ" and buy a brain.......lord knows they have the money....

Yes, Regi, to be a Vincent D'Onofrio fan requires extraordinary patience. We are always waiting for his work, and always finally rewarded with his awesome performances. VDO definitely makes it worth the wait. USA probably knows we will always be there...waiting.

Why do I think that NB/Uni is perhaps considering moving the show back on to NBC...???
