Kate Erbe's new film, "Three Backyards"

Award-winning writer/director Eric Mendelsohn has just completed a new film titled “Three Backyards”.   Originally titled “Four Backyards”, the film was produced by Mendelsohn’s partner, Rocco Caruso and “Law and Order: Criminal Intent” producer Fred Berner.   Edie Falco and Eric Mendelsohn are pictured at left. Fred Berner pictured below.

"Four Backyards" is about real people and real circumstances, Mendelsohn said, and described the story as one where "odd occurrences, seemingly trivial," change characters' perspective about who they are. The setting is an anonymous harbor village and the action takes place in the course of one day.

"I tend to write Long Island stories," Mendelsohn, an Old Bethpage NY native, said. "Four Backyards" would portray life in the suburbs in a way not seen in most mainstream movies".

Now titled “Three Backyards” - it is the story of four inhabitants of the same suburban town over the course of one curious autumn day. The film stars Mendelsohn’s good friend, “The Soprano’s” Edie Falco, Elias Koteas and Embeth Davidtz, and Kathryn Erbe.

The low-budget independent film was produced by Mendelsohn’s film production company, Caruso Mendelsohn Films. Mendelsohn teaches Directing at Columbia University School of the Arts Graduate Film Division.

“Three Backyards” was filmed in Northport and Sag Harbor (Long Island, NY) and Queens NY, August through October 2008. Currently in post production, release expected in 2009.

Kate Erbe appears as “John’s Wife” opposite Elias Koteas and mother to Emily, played by Peyton Roi (pictured below)

Kate’s role -- [JOHN’S WIFE] Late 40’s. She is attractive, slim, long-suffering, and down-to-earth. Though usually able to bear great strain with aplomb, she is at a breaking point in her marriage; she is no longer willing to kowtow to her husband’s brooding silence and has decided to push back to bring things to a head. I wonder how Kate feels being asked to play "Late 40s". She'll need quite a bit of make up.

If she can pull off playing a teenager (when she was in her 20s) in "What About Bob?", she can do anything!

Edie Falco looks great!

Love movies about Long Island NY, my home. The towns mentioned are about 20minutes away from me.

I just pray that the actors don't fake a Long Island accent. We don't talk like that, LOL!

My second thought (after "glad she's getting some action") was the same as Lozzie's. Being asked to play someone younger is a compliment. Being asked to play someone younger could make one a bit upset. Luckily it seems she's just interested in a good role.

Great...!!

It was about time Kathy got some action.

I'm not an actor, though I've had some training, and I might've been one, had I not loved my current profession; so, if I've learned anything, it's that getting an offer to play someone you're "not" -or ddon't want to be- is nothing short of being praised for your talent and abilities as an "actor".

Nothing thrills a real artist, more than such a challange, and nothing demotivetes one, worse than being offered similar roles, over & over...

Sometimes I wish Vincent, Kathy and Eric would play along in a film, only as totaly different, unexpected characters, that'd reflect their true talent and capabilities. It would be a bomb....!!

But guess for now, I'll have to just live with the dream....
