Videos from SAG.org

sent in by TheVault - thank you.

#1 - SAG President Alan Rosenberg explaining to SAG members the strike authorization vote background

#2 - SAG is partnering with the other acting and performers guilds to promote the realistic portrayal of people with disabilities in the media and to help actors with disabilities win more parts. CI has been a pioneer in this area with the episode 'Silencer' casting so many performers with disabilities, but this idea of getting more parts for performers with disabilities is also an issue in the current SAG-AMPTP negotiations and one that the conglomerates are fighting SAG over...apparently the executives are reluctant to realize that people with disabilities have civil rights or that 56 million Americans have a disability of some kind

I AM PWD Video Press Release

Los Angeles I AM PWD Press Conference - (Linda Bove of Sesame Street, Geri Jewell of The Facts Of Life and Robert David Hall of C.S.I. spoke at this)

NYC I AM PWD Press Conference - (Daryl Chill Mitchell who did a CI guest star spoke at this)

Washington DC I AM PWD Press Conference -(S Robert Morgan from The Wire spoke at this)

I was very interested in the I AM PWD press conferences. There are far too few people with disabilities represented on screen. There are millions of people with disabilities around the world but how many to we see on tv and film, not many.

Excluding disabled people from our tv's also sends out messages to others that it is ok to exclude people with disabilities from other areas of life.

My own son has cerebral palsy and has worked hard all his life but can he get a job, not a chance.

So good for the screen actors guild for trying to raise the profile of disabled people and show that they can be useful members of society if someone will give them the chance.

I will now climb down off my soap box and stop beating chest and go and make myself a cup of coffee.

Sorry to climb back onto my soap box so quickly, but I have just read something so bad about disabled actors that I'm practically speachless. An indie film was made about disable film makers and when it went before the british board of film censors they gave it 12a certificate and also a WARNING that it contained disabled people.

I can't believe that they would do such a thing and I don't believe that it even part of their work. What do they think the outcry would be like if they had put a warning that a film contained black people or women it beggers belief.

After complaints they have now withdrawn the warning, but the maker has said it it too late as the publicity material has already gone out.

The name of the film is Special People.

Many thanks to the admin, I know this is not to do with Vincent, although I do hope he would be as shocked as I am.

yours, vivienne, wildly frothing at the mouth.

Humm.....

Next, they might issue warnings, that the movie "Somethin' somethin'" Contains "THE TRUTH".....!!!

Vivienne;

No need for appologies; of course it concerns Vincent; he played in "Good Luck" -and we all know by now, that he wouldn't accept a role, unless wants, and cares, to play it.

Frankly, it is shocking, but that's what makes the disabled REALLY special:

Unlike many of us, they understand that nothing comes easy in this world; and unlike many of us, they have the courage to decide what they really want from life, and go for it...

Wishing the best of the best for you, your dear son, and all of the most respected, specially-abled people around the world, on this blissful day; -Saghy

Hey Vivienne

I am not sure if you're in the USA or overseas but you and your son might find the AMC TV series Breaking Bad interesting, RJ Mitte, a young actor with cerebral palsy plays the son of the lead character and the son has cerebral palsy. Mitte is only one of 3 or 4 actors in the permanent cast of a US TV show with a disability

RJ's imdb page is at
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2666409/

Thanks VDO Vault, I am in england, but saw that Breaking Bad was starting here on Sky TV a few weeks ago, but haven't seen it yet so thanks for the heads up, I'll catch it the next time it's on.

James might actually watch it with me, he usually disaproves of my usual viewing, if there isn't a dead body in the first five minutes, then I don't watch, ie. Criminal Intent, NCIS or any CSI.

I have got him into some of Vincents films, Steal this Movie, Good Luck and The Velocity of Gary (James is 19 and left school a year ago so don't be horified at the last film).

regards vivienne
