Greta Scacchi: 'My doomed love affair helped me to resurrect my acting career'

From dailymail.uk.com, 3.31.08

The star of films such as White Mischief is to transfer to the West End in Terence Rattigan's searing drama The Deep Blue Sea after a hit UK tour.

The 48-year-old actress revealed that the part of Hester Collyer, an Establishment wife who throws it all away for a doomed love, mirrored her own life, and had proved cathartic.

Scacchi broke up with American actor Vincent D'Onofrio not long after they had her first child in 1992. The split left her so distraught she was unable to work for four years - just when her Hollywood career was taking off.

She was forced to resurrect those emotions in rehearsals with director Edward Hall for what proved to be a triumphant run in the regions. Full article

Memorable Moments on Set

Posted on Instantcast.com, 3.25.08

While casting background actors for Law & Order: Criminal Intent, I have been given many difficult scenes. We have needed 150 people for a Korean airport, 50 military cadets with shaved heads, several Pakistani actors for a themed episode, and a dozen Playboy bunny types for an episode based on Anna Nicole Smith! But the most difficult episode to cast by far focused on the deaf community.

Criminal Intent wanted to pay tribute to the deaf community and involve them in the shoot. All of the parts billed as “speaking parts,” required sign language and real actors who were really deaf. The show also wanted as many deaf extras possible.

By the time we had finished shooting the episode I had hired 41 deaf actors, which was the most deaf actors to ever appear in an episode on network television. That didn’t even include the other actors performing sign language, many of whom had deaf family members or taught in the deaf community. There was even one teacher who drove down in a van from RIT and brought with her a small group of students. All the actors had photos taken withVincent D’Onofrio and Katherine Erbe!

THE MODERN-DAY SHERLOCK HOLMES WHO KEEPS US WATCHING

thisisderbyshire.co.uk
3.25.08

-excerpted-
Goren relies on his gut instincts to solve cases, which often proves to be even better than solid evidence at solving a mystery - a bit like a modern-day Sherlock Holmes with a New York accent. He is someone you'd definitely want as a lifeline on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, thanks to his wide knowledge of physics, chemistry, literature, psychology and foreign languages.

Actually, his eccentricity is hard to miss and some fans of the show wonder if there's something a little odd about him.

"He's ridiculously smart," said D'Onofrio. "It's completely unbelievable that a guy like that could exist. So how do you get away with that? You make him weird. He's really arrogant, he's self-centred and he's as spontaneous as you can absolutely be."

New film this summer

NationalLedger.com
By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith
Mar 12, 2008

SOMETHING ENTIRELY DIFFERENT: "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" star Vincent D'Onofrio is getting ready to direct a yet-untitled Western movie this summer -- and "Medium" actor Jake Weber is happy to report he's signed on to the project. "It's a fantastic script and a fantastic part -- a very tough Texan who comes in to help the sheriff with the growth of this town when the railroad goes through it. That's what I always did before 'Medium,' played heavies -- a lot of bad guys -- so it's kind of nice to get back to something with a little bite." Referring to his "Medium" role as the husband of Patricia Aquette's psychically endowed crime solver, he adds, "Not that Joe DuBois isn't fun to play. I like him. He's a kind soul."

More about Goren's family --

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 3.7.08
TV Q&A with Rob Owen

Q: The last Goren-Eames episode of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" before last summer's break was called "Endgame" and starred Roy Scheider as a serial killer who contacted Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) before the killer's scheduled execution to share details of many of his other victims. It was also the episode where Goren's mother died, and as more details of the killer's past crimes were discovered, it became evident that there had been a relationship between Bobby's mother and the killer and that he might even be Bobby's father. We left Bobby pretty traumatized by this knowledge and by his mother's death, and though he still looked pretty shaken in the first fall show, he rallied to help solve the murder of Alex's husband, and no mention has been made to date of the cloud over Bobby's parentage. Did they just decide to drop this question? Also, was this perhaps one of Roy Schieder's last roles before his death?

-- Alison, Edgewood

Rob: According to a publicist for the show, late in the next season of "Criminal Intent," Goren's complicated family story will be revisited: "In addition to questions about Goren's paternity, there are also unresolved 'issues' between Goren and his brother (Tony Goldwyn), and his brother's son (Donny, played by Trevor Morgan). One, or both of them, is likely to reappear in Bobby's life."

Gene D'Onofrio's student plays "Big Daddy"

TheTimes-News.com, 3.6.08
by Charity Apple

Five years ago, theater legend Gennaro D’Onofrio told Alamance County’s own Reid Dalton that he’d be perfect for the role of Big Daddy in Tennessee Williams’ “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.”

That comment comes to fruition on Friday when Dalton takes the stage as Big Daddy in the Find The Light Repertory Theater Company and School of Theater and Film’s production of “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.”

Gene D'Onofrio

-excerpted-
Dalton first met Gennaro D’Onofrio and his daughter, who also teaches acting, five years ago. He started taking a class with D’Onofrio in the fall and discovered the production company would be performing “Hansel and Gretel,” which he hoped to be involved with but already had a role in the Gallery Players’ “And Then There Were None.” When “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof” was mentioned, Dalton jumped at the chance.

A New York native, D’Onofrio has called North Carolina home for a number of years. He has two daughters and one son — actor Vincent D’Onofrio, who has appeared on “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and in a number of movies as well as achieving directing and production roles. Vincent and Gennaro created the RiverRun International Film Festival, which they sold to the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem four years ago.
